Reviews

From the book 'Exit Interview: The Life and Death of My Ambitious Career' by Kristi Coulter, which details her working days at Amazon where she started in early 2006.

"In my third week, the English musician Robyn Hitchcock was on site with his label reps and played a mini concert for about fifteen of us in a conference room. For me, a fan of twenty years, sitting five feet from Robyn Hitchcock and him take my request was possibly even more surreal than meeting Jeff Bezos. Afterward, he told the group some new editions of his 1980s records were about to come out, but he'd also noticed that old versions were available on Amazon through third-party sellers. Could anyone explain how to make sure the new versions would be visible to customers?
Huh, good question, I thought. How does that work? before noticing that everyone had turned to look at me, the least likely to know. But that was the way of the team, whether out of prematurely granted respect or diffidence: wanting the boss to be the one to talk. And my way, as the girl who always muddled through no matter what, was never to say "no" or "I don't know." Which is how I ended up giving one of my musical idols earnest, detailed, almost certainly incorrect advice - advice he wrote down - based on a very limited understanding of Amazon's third-party business, catalog systems, product IDs, and I don't even know what else*

*Yes, I still feel kind of bad about this, sorry Robyn.
